Caption: A unique hoard of 43 Roman gold coins, or aurei, from excavations at Plantation Place, London, for British Land plc. The hoard, dating from AD 65 to 174, was found in a stone-lined ‘deposit box’, beneath the floor of a major Roman townhouse. Archaeological work by the Museum of London Archaeology Service revealed remarkable new information about early Londinium, as part of a mitigation strategy that combined maximum rental space with archaeological preservation in key areas.
